Taco meat recipe

The kids asked for this recipe, so here ya go. I make no claims of greatness or authenticity for this recipe, other than it’s what I’ve been making for years so it’s what you’re used to. I don’t use taco meat seasoning packets because they don’t ever seem to get bought, so I just make it from scratch.

Ingredients (per lb of beef, except the water):

1-1 1/2 cups of water

1 lb ground beef. Leaner is better.

1 tsp chili powder

2 tbsp dried onions

1 tsp salt

1 tsp oregano – Mexican oregano makes a small difference

1/4 tsp of smoked paprika

1/2 tsp ground cumin

Optional: 1/2 tsp garlic powder, or a heaping tsp of jarlic.

Start by putting the onions in the water to rehydrate. Next brown the ground beef. If using jarlic, add it after the meat browns to cook for a minute or so. Dump in the water, onions & spices and simmer for 15 covered and another 15-30 min until liquid is gone. When the liquid is gone, the meat’s ready.
