Is recording your life really that weird?

I mean audio recording. Like, when you’re playing a family game or walking a trail – having an audio recorder going. Or the chat you have with your kids in the car.

Yes, I record those things. Not every time, but as often as I can manage. I’m known to have a recorder sitting out while the family is doing family stuff.

I go back and listen to it from time to time. The ones of the kids when they were really little are fund to listen to. Except a few where one of us parents is scolding someone. I know at the time I didn’t feel that mean at the time, but later I sound like an asshole. I listened to them back then and it made me a better, more thoughtful parent.

The thing is, I don’t know of anyone else who does this. People sort of think it’s nice idea (really, I think they’re just being polite), but I don’t think anyone else has gotten the bug to start doing it.

Am I the only one?

  2. @swduncan One of my favorite pieces of audio ever is this recording by my uncle of the night before my parents' wedding. https://artlung.com/blog/2010/10/23/on-the-eve-of-jim-phyllis-wedding/
